I didn’t anticipate that the ‘unlearning’ all my structural learning will be more crucial to my creative process than doing new things. I yearned to go back to the times of my adolescent spontaneity. The enthusiasm for such mediocre ideas. And such less care for numerous failed projects.

Creativity is driven by spontaneity and fearlessness.

I thought let’s start with ground up again, and decided to go a week without any ’to-dos’ in mind. Suddenly, the blank mind has a different lens to the same view and inspiration staring right in front of me every single day. Presenting to you,  A Girl in the Mudhouse!

I have passed by Hawa Mahal at least 1700 times in my past 17 years in the city. But, I think it was just difficult to be a tourist to your own town, feels kinda funny to be honest. I mean who goes to see Hawa mahal on a working Monday for god’s sakes. As I took my first stare at the magnificent gate, I realised the innate grandeur in all its forms and patterns. The jharokas and the borders felt so alluring that I could connect it to all the walls I have seen ever.

The blooming bougainvillea against the sandstone always did made me stop for a second, felt like just wanted to capture that colour and intensity in my notebook, between some pages.

The intricacy of the blocks carved by hand felt unreal. Just few kms away in tiny rooms of Sanganer and the mechanical thappad-thappad of wet block on cotton felt suddenly so efficient and genius.
The visuals clustered in my mind over images have transported me to create this collection, very earthy yet fresh, very simple yet fun!

There is a story to each every design. And I can’t wait to take you down the road!
